What is cloud ?

By Definition Cloud Computing are in essence online, super sized data centers containing hundreds of thousands of servers hosting web applications.

Cloud offers  - from raw infrastructure to complete business processes , and can be purchased through web interfaces and turned on and off as they per need (in nuttshell Pay -per - use , just like we pay for utilities). Only thing you need is a computer and internet connection.

Types of Cloud Services -
  • Web-based cloud services.
  • SaaS (Software as a Service)
  • IaaS (Infrastructure as Service) / Platform as a Service.
  • Utility cloud services
  • Managed services
Benefits - with cloud

  • Customer can bypass the expense and lead time of buying, installing, operating, maintaining and upgrading the networks and
  • Instead of licensing software, users tap into a service when it’s needed for as long as it’s needed.
  • Little or no capital investment.
  • Variable pricing based on your consumption.

Improvement in cloud services in last few years -
  1. Storage is be limitless
  2. Processing power is immense as a result of Infinitely scalability.
  3. With security polices in place , Information/data security is no longer a major issue.

Though cloud is really good for startups/Smaller companies and offers a tremendous amount of resources that otherwise would be cost-prohibitive for them , at least at the initial investment phase , even big organizations that has fire power to spent thousands-million dollor to maintain their infrastructure can use cloud for new initiatives or pursuing innovation , without spending huge amount .
